播音人原拟名是播音皇子,这个原名有部份观众仍会采用,可能当年无线电视宣传时会采用这名字,所以也为人认识。固名思义,这剧是说当年从事播音事业的人的工作生活为主,是由香港剧集里传统伦理及爱情的故事组成。
剧中男主角韦业昌(周润发 饰)自小与母亲彩姐(南红 饰)相依为命,後来获海外进修法律,学成归来。彩姐早前租其家予多位在电台工作的街坊,包括装作风流的太子佳(罗浩楷 饰),常扮演孩子声的阿红(庄文清 饰)、风骚的阿娟(刘雅丽 饰)等,大家相处和谐,各人亦有不同个性……
与昌同屋自小成长的吕熙(苗侨伟 饰)有次幸获电台聘约,昌与他一起往电台时与电台女播音员欧若芷(赵雅芝 饰)相识,二人产生好感……
