During the later stage of the Warring States period, State of Qin and State of Zhao are battling for more grounds and wars often break out between them.

In the state of Zhao Handan, Censor-in-chief Li He’s daughter Li Hao Lan (Wu Jinyan) is framed by her stepmother. This not only destroyed her family, but she was disgraced and sold. Down-and-out Lu Buwei (Nie Yuan) happens to buy her. He uses a ridiculously attractive scheme to offer Hao Lan to Ying Yiren (Mao Zijun), King of Qin’s grandson, who is held hostage at a palace in State of Zhao. Li and Lu enter Zhao palace together, and cleverly unravel devious schemes. In particular, the duo manage to dismantle a trap set up by Princess Ya (Karina Hai) for them as she has a crush on Yiren. They even gain King of Zhao’s admiration. Hao Lan becomes Yiren’s wife. As Hao Lan marries a foreign state man, so the State of Qin massacred 400,000 Zhao troops. Yiren’s capacity as a hostage puts him in potential fatal danger. Princess Ya ends up dead as she fails to frame Hao Lan. The bond between the two of them becomes weaker. Everybody senses danger in the palace. Lu Buwei uses Hao Lan to incite disorder in State of Zhao’s inner court. He seizes a chance to make King of Qin’s grandson Yiren escape from State of Zhao and return to State of Qin. Some crook in State of Qin is spreading rumors about father of Hao Lan’s son Ying Zheng (Tong Mengshi) is actually Lu Buwei and not Yiren. Meanwhile, Yiren succumbs to critical illness. Ying Zheng ascends the throne. He reckons Lu Buwei definitely has something to do with his father’s death. He also sends Lu into exile as he does not like him having too much power. Hao Lan begs her son to spare Lu from death. In Luoyang, the two of them finally reunite, just like when they first met.

Yuet-ying (Jacqueline Wong) is a maid in the Vice Minister of War Kau Residence. She is also the leader of six groups of maids, who have formed an intelligence sharing alliance to make money. Yuet-gau (Roxanne Tong) has sold herself and become a maid as she is raising money for her beloved Fu Yau-wai (Brian Tse) to go to the capital to take the imperial exam. Yuet-ying and Yuet-gau are taking care of Madam Koon Chi-pui (Florence Kwok) and Madam Sheungkoon Wan-ying (Angie Cheong) respectively. The duo keep trying to outwit each other for the sake of their bosses. Kau Kei-tsun (Tony Hung), aka Young Master, and Yuet-ying become lovers. Regrettably, Kei-tsun’s father Kau Ching (Timothy Cheng) makes Kei-tsun’s life difficult. Kau Ching is demoted as he has committed some offense. Kei-tsun diligently prepares to tackle the imperial exam as he wants to restore family honor. Fok Yin-jing (Lisa Lau), the daughter of Minister of War Fok Bun (Poon Chi Man), also fancies Yau-wai and repeatedly seduces him. Yuet-ying and Yuet-gau are determined to jeopardize their lovers’ study efforts as they are afraid of being ditched if their guys pass the imperial exam with flying colors. Everyone has some story to tell. Some people choose to leave the past behind, while others just love to reminisce. Chai Man-shek (Max Cheung) - son of Chai Village village chief Chai Yik-tseung (Lee Kwok Lun), Chai Man-kei (Ben Wong) and Bin Wai-ching (Alice Chan) have been buddies since childhood. The two guys both fancy Wai-ching. Rewind thirty years to a Mid-Autumn Festival evening, Man-shek, Man-kei and Wai-ching get drunk and then engage in something that undermines family values. Their inappropriate behaviour is exposed. Man-kei, Wai-ching and Man-shek leave Chai Village and go their separate ways. Man-shek has even gone to Australia for good as he wants to forget everything that has happened. However, thirty years have passed and they are forced to face up to this long-buried incident as fate has brought them back together again.
